What is TC Processing?
The full name of TC: Tissue culturetreated, TC treatment means that the vessel has been surface modified to be suitable for the culture of adherent cells. Cells grown in suspension do not necessarily require such specially treated vessels. However, cell culture dishes with modified surface treatment are generally suitable for suspension cell culture.
Uses of TC treatment
Most animal cells need to adhere to a solid-phase interface in order to grow. And only a hydrophilic solid phase interface is available for cells to adhere.The earliest cell culture vessels were made of glass. Since the surface of glass is hydrophilic, ordinary cells can adhere and grow without special treatment.
Polystyrene has good light transmission, good strength and malleability, and is not toxic, making it the material of choice for disposable cell culture consumables such as disposable cell dish and cell culture plates (general cassettes and CD cases are also made of polystyrene). However, the surface of polystyrene is hydrophobic, so it requires surface modification treatment to become hydrophilic before it can be suitable for cell culture.
